Managing one head of natural hair can be a task, but managing four? That's a serious level-up! Having been at this for over 15 years, here are some practical tips and tricks that have helped make the process smoother for me with my girlies—aka “The Atarodos.”

Their Schedules
First one being a weekly schedule, fitting their haircare routine around their weekly activities. Set a weekly schedule: it could be wash/deep condition over the weekend and re-moisturising during the week, or vice versa. My first 2 daughters, Anaiah and Ellie, have quite a busy week and Saturday schedule, so I try to keep their wash days to midweek. If there’s any hair business over the weekend, this will typically be their re-moisturising.

Knowing and Understanding Each Child’s Hair Type
Each child’s head of hair, though similar, has a different hair type, and it’s essential to understand what each one needs. Errr, no, mam—not the Andre Walker system! Tailoring their routines to their specific hair types will make a world of difference.
Simplicity Is Key
With four heads to manage, simplicity is my bestie! Stick to the basics: cleansing, conditioning, and moisturising. Install simple styles such as twists—this has been our go-to for years.

Involve Your Children
It is their hair, after all!! Let them help. Depending on their age, let them participate in their hair care routine. I like to discuss their styling with them beforehand—this helps me plan how to install their twists. This teaches them to take pride in their hair and builds their confidence and independence.
Make it fun, name it! my girls and I named ours “Hairspa n Tea.” This is where I get all the gossip from school.😛😛
In Summary
Celebrate the unique beauty of their natural hair and the special moments you share during haircare time. With patience and love, you’ll become a pro at managing those beautiful curls, kinks, and coils. Happy hair days ahead!

Involving the littluns is my biggest takeaway. Educates them and gives them a sense and ownership and pride when looking after their gorgeous locks.
Love the way you balance the busy schedule with the girls, but make it look so easy! True inspiration to the black hair community – keep up the good work Janet!
Absolutely love this post, I have many family/friends that have chimed on about caring for multiple children’s hair & how time consuming it can be, so I will definitely be sharing this post to provide some practical guidance.
You are absolutely spot on about simplicity being key…even as someone who only has one hair of head to care for…my own…lol, there are still many golden nuggets for me to take away from your blog.
But further, the emphasis of getting your kids involved in the journey is one of great importance in my option. Encouraging our daughters to participate in their hair care journey not only teaches them how to properly care for their hair, but also to love their beautiful crowns…our daughters should ALWAYS be empowered in this way 😌
Your blog is a beautiful celebration of Black natural hair and the pride that comes with embracing its unique beauty. By teaching your daughters to care for and love their hair, you’re instilling confidence and self-worth that will stay with them for a lifetime. Your approach not only nurtures healthy hair but also strengthens cultural identity, reminding them that their natural curls are a source of power, heritage, and pride. Thank you for sharing this inspiring journey—it’s a testament to the beauty and resilience of Black hair and the deep love that goes into caring for it. ♥️
