Experiencing dryness after washing your hair can be frustrating, but with the right techniques and products, you can maintain hydrated, healthy locks. Here are some effective strategies:

Effective Strategies to Lock In Hair Moisture

1. Choose the Right Shampoo

If you are exclusively using a sulphate free shampoo or clay please stop. Alternate between a sulphate free and a clarifying shampoo. Sulphate free shampoo does not offer a thorough cleanse, they have their place, but not exclusively. If you do not thoroughly cleanse your hair, then deep and leave-in conditioners can’t work effectively. Our Dúdú Clarifying Shampoo will deep clean without stripping, remove build-up, and promote healthy hair growth.

2. Apply Leave-In Conditioner

Someone asked me if leave-in conditioners were a must for afro hair at our last webinar. Short answer: in my strongest opinion, yes. Incorporate a leave-in conditioner between to keep your hair well conditioned. Use products like the Òdodo Leave-In Conditioner to  retain moisture, define curls, control frizz, detangle, and nourish your strands for healthier, stronger hair.

3. Use a Spritz Every Other Day

If you notice your hair feels dry after a day or two post wash then refresh with a well formulated spritz like our Rose of Jericho. It's light and effective at boosting moisture retention and adding a light conditioner to your hair.

4. Use Oils with Natural Ingredients

Hair oils infused with natural ingredients help seal in moisture and add shine. Khalila Oil, a blend of Broccoli Seed, Green Coffee Bean, Watermelon, Ylang-Ylang, and Jasmine oils, is ideal for treating dry and damaged hair. It’s also perfect for hot oil treatments and styling.

5. Avoid Excessive Heat

Limit the use of heat styling tools, as they can exacerbate dryness. If you must use them, apply a heat protectant spray beforehand to minimise damage.

6. Regular Deep Conditioning

Deep conditioning treatments are essential for replenishing moisture on wash days. Our Chief Deep Conditioner is specially formulated to strengthen, repair, and condition all hair types. Packed with Quaternised and Hydrolysed Proteins, Avocado Oil, Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Vegan Ceramides, and Hyaluronic Acid, it’s a powerful addition to your wash day and part of the Wash Day Essentials bundle.

7. Keep your hair in a low manipulation, protective style

Hair that is open to the elements  will dry out quicker than hair that is in twists or plaits or cornrows! If you can put your hair in these styles rather than wearing your hair out all the time it will help. If you are wearing a bun, just roll the ends and tuck them in.

 Conclusion

By integrating these practices and products into your wash day routine, you can effectively combat post washing dryness and enjoy healthier, more resilient hair.
